Description of activity
Students write an exposition in response to an artwork they have discussed in detail in class. They draft and edit their work thoroughly to produce a published text.
Suggested materials
Paper, pencils/pens
Option: computer, worksheet
Prior learning
Students have been studying artworks in Creative Arts. As a class they have discussed the composition, symbolism and interpretation of various artworks. Students have read reviews of artworks and have jointly and independently constructed exposition texts.
Outcomes
Producing Texts (WS3.9)
Produces a wide range of well-structured and well-presented literary and factual texts for a wide variety of purposes and audiences using increasingly challenging topics, ideas, issues and written language features.
Grammar and Punctuation (WS3.10)
Uses knowledge of sentence structure, grammar and punctuation to edit own writing.
Spelling (WS3.11)
Spells most common words accurately and uses a range of strategies to spell unfamiliar words.
Criteria for assessing learning
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- draft, revise and publish an exposition
- use appropriate written language features for an exposition text
- express a point of view in writing with supporting statements
- use a range of strategies to spell familiar and unfamiliar words
