Description of activity
Students view the first 20 minutes of a film and write an analysis evaluating the effectiveness of the director’s cinematography. They consider the following elements of cinematography;
- Establishment shot/scenes
- Music/sound effects
- Special effects/lighting
- Camera angles/editing/pace.
[Viewing time 20 minutes. Writing time 35 minutes]
Context
Students have completed a unit on Film that has focused on aspects of cinematography. They have viewed excerpts from several popular films and have read examples of film analysis.

Criteria for assessing learning
