Description of activity
Students write a 600-word recommendation to the coordinator of Stage 5 English arguing for, or justifying the inclusion of, a prose fiction text in a Stage 5 English course. Students include the merits and appropriateness of the text in relation to audience, purpose, ideas, style, language forms and features and textual structure.
Context
Students have critically analysed the context, purpose, values and attitudes, language forms and features and structures of a key text. They have an understanding of the purpose, language features and structures of written persuasive arguments. They are aware of writing for a specified audience.

Criteria for assessing learning

- understand and analyse the text
- write an authoritative, sustained, coherent and reasoned argument concerning the chosen text’s merits and appropriateness
- support their argument with close and valid reference to the text’s purpose, content, ideas, language and structural features
- use language and arguments appropriate to purpose and audience
- compose a text of appropriate length.
