Description of activity
Students prepare and deliver a five-minute speech to persuade listeners to attend a new production of Romeo and Juliet. They have chosen an original concept for their production that recontextualises the themes and characterisation of Romeo and Juliet while keeping the language and story of the play intact. In the speech students explain their production and refer to two scenes in the play to illustrate how their original concept is reflected in their production.
Context
Students have completed a close critical study of Romeo and Juliet and have identified and discussed the key ideas or issues and how they have been explored. They have an understanding of how a production concept is reflected in the staging. Students are familiar with the language forms and features, and structures of persuasive texts.
