Description of activity
Students draft a simple recount of an excursion or event. They use handwriting or a word processing program.
Suggested materials
Blank paper, pencils, computer (optional)
Prior learning
Students have jointly constructed simple recounts. They are familiar with the use of action verbs, adverbs, conjunctions and past tense.
Outcomes
Producing Texts (WES1.9)
Engages in writing texts with the intention of conveying an idea or message
Grammar and punctuation (WES1.10)
Produces simple texts that show the emergence of the grammar and punctuation needed to achieve the purpose of the text
Spelling (WES1.11)
Begins to use letters to represent known words when spelling
Handwriting and computer technology (WES1.12)
Produces most lower-case and upper-case letters and uses computer technology to begin to construct texts
Criteria for assessing learning
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- use a basic recount text structure
- use action verbs, adverbs, conjunctions and past tense
- use appropriate sentence structure and punctuation
- use strategies to spell words correctly.
