Foundation Statement strands

The following strands are covered in this activity:

Writing

Description of activity

Students write an information report about an animal they have studied and discussed in class.

Suggested materials

Blank paper, pencils, computer (optional)

Prior learning

Students have jointly constructed an information report. They have read simple information reports about animals.

Outcomes

Producing Texts (WES1.9)
Engages in writing texts with the intention of conveying an idea or message
Grammar and punctuation (WES1.10)
Produces simple texts that show the emergence of the grammar and punctuation needed to achieve the purpose of the text
Spelling (WES1.11)
Begins to use letters to represent known words when spelling
Handwriting and computer technology (WES1.12)
Produces most lower-case and upper-case letters and uses computer technology to begin to construct texts

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • write a simple information report
  • use sentences to structure ideas
  • use strategies to spell familiar words
  • use NSW Foundation Foundation Style handwriting or a word-processing program.
