Reading

Description of activity

Students are divided into groups of five. During independent reading, they select texts with help, then read and discuss these factual texts and other sources of information about dinosaurs. They then use the information they have to complete the worksheets.

Prior learning

Students have used retrieval charts to record information from factual texts in HSIE and Science and Technology units of work.

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • look for specific information in factual texts
  • use a number of sources of information
  • read a variety of literary and factual texts
  • read and comprehend unfamiliar texts
  • use different parts of a book to gain access to information, eg cover, title, contents page, glossary, index.
