Bracelet Design

Grade Work Samples
End of Stage 5 (end of Year 10)
Grade A Terry   Jo
Grade C Jamie   Shannon

Description of activity

Students design a feature for a bracelet that includes a stone setting. The materials may be silver, brass and/or copper. The bracelet is to be made from 2mm round wire and the ends are to be tapered and shaped into a hook. These hooks will be attached to the design feature so that the bracelet can be opened and closed when worn.

Context

Students are undertaking the fourth module of the Industrial Technology Metal focus area, specialising in Jewellery. Through the previous study of the core modules in Art Metal and specialised modules in Jewellery, students have developed knowledge, skills and understanding of suitable materials, processes and techniques for individual projects based on an analysis of properties and aesthetic appeal. They have had a range of experiences using elementary hand tools, machine tools and processes for cutting, shaping, joining and finishing metals. In this unit on metal jewellery, students have selected materials for individual projects based on an analysis of properties and aesthetic appeal.

Outcomes

5.2.1 applies design principles in the modification, development and production of projects
5.2.2 identifies, selects and competently uses a range of hand and machine tools, equipment and processes to produce quality practical projects
5.3.2 selects and uses appropriate materials for specific applications
