Description of activity

Students use the internet and other resources to research information on a global organisation whose work either promotes ecological sustainability or reduces global inequalities. They record the results of their research in short answers to a list of focus questions about the organisation and present it in poster or multimedia format.

This activity would take about three hours.

Context

This activity is from a unit on Global Change (4G3). Its purpose is to draw together many of the issues involved in this topic, in particular, the way in which individuals and groups can impact on the global community to improve global life opportunities and promote ecological sustainability. Students have some experience with independent research and are able to use the internet.

Outcomes

A student:

4.1 identifies and gathers geographical information
4.2 organises and interprets geographical information
4.3 uses a range of written, oral and graphic forms to communicate geographical information
4.10 explains how geographical knowledge, understanding and skills combine with knowledge of civics to contribute to informed citizenship

Criteria for assessing learning

(These criteria would normally be communicated to students with the activity.)

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • identify and gather information about the target organisation
  • organise and interpret the information
  • identify and discuss the impact of this organisation on the global community
  • accurately communicate their findings.
