Work Samples - Grade B

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade B.

At the end of Stage 5, School Certificate grades in Mathematics for Grade B are further differentiated as either B8 or B7. Read more about School Certificate Grading.

Students will use consumer arithmetic to calculate discounts.


Activity: Simultaneous Equations (View Activity…)

Students will use different methods to solve a simultaneous equation, and describe how they check their solutions.


Activity: Draw the Graph to Fit the Story (View Activity…)

Students will interpret a graph, then draw one from their own story.


Activity: Surds (View Activity…)

Students will perform operations with surds and justify their answers.


Activity: The Pyramid of Giza (View Activity…)

Students will calculate the volume and surface area of the pyramid of Giza.


Activity: Midpoint (View Activity…)

Students will use the midpoint of an interval to explain possible endpoints.


Activity: Applications of Simple and Compound Interest (View Activity…)

Students will be asked to demonstrate what they know and can do in relation to aspects of consumer arithmetic.


Activity: Similar? Congruent? (View Activity…)

Students are given a worksheet showing a variety of triangles, and they indicate which triangles are similar and which triangles are congruent.


Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
