Guidelines for Marking

The following guidelines for marking, show one approach to assigning a value to a student's work. Other approaches may be used that better suit the reporting process of the school. Categories, marks, grades, visual representations or individual comments/notations may all be useful.

Range A student in this range:
16-20

(Very high)

  • presents a sophisticated, well-detailed report on the experiences of the chosen individual
  • uses specific and relevant historical information based on a range of sources
  • displays effective skills in structuring sustained, logically-organised text to communicate the results of research
  • explains a perspective and interpretation of the past
12-15

(High)

  • presents a well-detailed report on the experiences of the chosen individual
  • uses relevant historical information based on a range of sources
  • displays sound skills in structuring a sustained text to communicate the results of research
  • explains a perspective and interpretation of the past
7-11

(Satisfactory)

  • presents a description of the experiences of the chosen individual
  • uses some relevant historical information based on sources
  • demonstrates some skills in structuring a text to communicate results of research
  • describes a perspective and interpretation of the past
1-6

(Progressing)

  • presents limited or inaccurate description of the different experiences of the chosen individual
  • uses irrelevant or inaccurate information
  • presents a poorly-structured text report.
  • identifies a perspective and/or interpretation of the past
