Guidelines for marking

The following guidelines for marking show one approach to assigning a value to a student’s work. Other approaches may be used that better suit the reporting process of the school. Categories, marks, grades, visual representations or individual comments / notations may all be useful.

Range

Students in this range:

High
  • identifies a broad range of challenges, representing different aspects of school life. They demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of support networks as they clearly and accurately identify a variety of support personnel, the services they can provide and where they are located. They show a thorough understanding of barriers to access by describing a variety of relevant influencing factors.
Satisfactory
  • identifies a range of challenges that may be faced by them as they start high school. They demonstrate a sound understanding of the relevant support as they identify the personnel available, the support they can provide and where they are located. They clearly describe barriers that may impact on access to these support services.
Progressing
  • identifies some situations that may present a challenge to them as they commence high school. They demonstrate a limited understanding of the relevant support personnel available, the support they can provide and where they are located. They identify some barriers that may impact on access to these support services.

Feedback

Comments will inform students on the degree to which their Support Network Card identifies a range of potential challenges that may arise as they commence high school and how accurately they have identified and located appropriate support networks. Comments will also relate to the depth of understanding shown in relation to the barriers preventing students from accessing support.

Future directions

Students may investigate in greater depth the reasons why some may not access support. They propose strategies that can assist students to overcome these barriers and also reflect on how they can support their peers and encourage them to seek help if required. They may explore how the support services available at school may assist them with challenges they are facing outside the school setting.
