Movement skill and performance in net/court games
Description of activity
Students participate in a range of activities to develop the movement skills and concepts required in net/court games. Activities are based on the game of volleyball and a number of progressions are used to increase complexity. The first activity is a 2-on-2 in a defined court involving underarm passes across a ‘no-go-zone’ into the opposition court. The activity progressions applied to this activity include lengthening the court area, the serving team commencing the point from behind the baseline, the attacking team returning back to the baseline after each attack, and passing to the other team member followed by a volleyball pass over the ‘no-go-zone’. Students progress to a 6-on-6 full court modified activity involving a combination of underarm passing and volleyball passes and shots.
Context
Students have adopted a range of team roles and realise the importance of effective interaction, and supporting and collaborating with others in group situations or teams. They understand the importance of anticipation timing, body control and awareness in efficient movement. They have also participated in basic movement activities that explore the use of space and improvisation in game contexts.
