Experimentation with Construction and Decorative Techniques
There are no Work Samples available for this Activity.
Description of activity
This activity relates to the experimentation undertaken by students for textile projects across all focus areas. Students are required to document a range of appropriate construction and decorative techniques to ensure quality textile items. Students will conduct experimentation to justify the selection of quality techniques in the final textile item.
Students learn about:
- safe use of a variety of textile equipment
- techniques such as colouration and decoration, joining materials, edge finishes, closures and hems.
Students learn to:
- select and safely use textile equipment to construct a quality textile item
- experiment with, select and use techniques to ensure quality textile items.
Context
Students have a prior knowledge in designing and constructing textile projects. They have undertaken learning experiences in a range of production and decorative techniques using a variety of equipment. Students can recognise appropriate techniques to produce quality textile items.
Areas for Assessment
Outcomes
5.5.2 selects appropriate techniques and uses equipment safely in the production of quality textile projects
5.5.3 demonstrates competence in the production of textile projects to completion
5.6.1 evaluates textile items to determine quality in their design and construction
Criteria for assessing learning
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- identify and describe appropriate construction and decorative techniques for the textile project being undertaken
- document the purpose and production method of the experimentation
- apply knowledge and skills of decorative and construction techniques to create samples
- justify the final selection of techniques to ensure the production of a quality textile item.
