Other Work Samples for:
Jordan has demonstrated a high level of competence in using the four operations to express numbers in different ways. A variety of solutions has been provided, and multi-step problems have been included. The problems vary in complexity but most of the examples are accurate. Brackets have been used but they have no bearing on the order of operations. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard midway through Stage 3.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and undertake investigations, selecting appropriate technological applications and problem-solving strategies. They use mathematical terminology and some conventions and they give valid reasons when comparing and selecting from possible solutions, making connections with existing knowledge and understanding. - Number
Students read, write and order numbers of any size, selecting and applying appropriate mental, written or calculator strategies for the four operations. They compare, order and perform calculations with simple fractions, decimals and simple percentages and apply the four operations to money in real-life situations. Students place the likelihood of simple events in order on a number line from 0 to 1.
