Self and Relationships

Description of activity

Students create a poster using words and illustrations to demonstrate the various types of discrimination that occur in our society. At the bottom of the poster they record four things that people could do to challenge discrimination in Australia.

(This activity could also be done using multimedia, eg Microsoft PowerPoint)

Suggested materials

Paper, pencils, pens, magazines

Prior learning

Students have investigated the similarities and differences between individuals and between groups, such as families. They have learnt about embracing these differences and about their rights and responsibilities as members of society. Students have identified groups and individuals who may experience discrimination. They have discussed ways that they can challenge discrimination through their own actions and behaviours.

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • identify a variety of forms of discrimination
  • suggest actions and behaviours that demonstrate tolerance and acceptance and challenge discrimination.
