Description of activity
Students complete a worksheet on cultural diversity and Australian identity.

Prior learning
Students have discussed and shared their families’ customs and practices. They have discussed the importance of having similar and different values. Students have researched the customs and practices of different cultural groups in the community, including Aboriginal Australians. They have looked at shared values held in the community.
Students have discussed and explored the definition of a value, posing questions such as:
- What do you value?
- What do others value?
- What values do you share with others?

Identities (CUS2.3)
Explains how shared customs, practices, symbols, languages and traditions in communities contribute to Australian and community identities.
Cultural Diversity (CUS2.4)
Describes different viewpoints, ways of living, languages and belief systems in a variety of communities.
Criteria for assessing learning
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- provide details of customs and practices of people in Australian communities
- provide personal insights or opinions into what makes an Australian
- show the diversity of groups within and between Australian communities
- explain the symbols, pictures and words used in their mindmap.
