Work Samples - Grade B

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade B.

At the end of Stage 5 for the School Certificate, student achievement is reported using the Course Performance Descriptors. Read more about School Certificate Grading.

Activity: Mixed media painting (View Activity…)

Students use a variety of surface effects and textures that integrate photographic images and collage.


Activity: The Natural Environment - Disintegration/Restoration (View Activity…)

Students will create a grid composition and apply a range of drawing techniques to render images to represent the restoration and disintegration of the natural environment.


Activity: City in Decline - Totemic Sculpture (View Activity…)

Using a range of construction techniques, students will make a freestanding sculpture in response to their investigations of the city using found objects and recycled materials. They reference modern and contemporary non-traditional sculpture, as well as indigenous totems to develop their works.

Students investigate a range of painting and drawing techniques to make a portrait.


Activity: City landscape (View Activity…)

Students investigate a range of painting techniques such as scumbling, impasto, dry brush and glazing, to represent the subject matter of the city.


Activity: Landscape and the Built Environment - Printmaking: Etching Print (View Activity…)

Students deign and make a print representing the local landscape and built environment.


Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
