Work Samples - Grade B

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade B.

At the end of Stage 5 for the School Certificate, student achievement is reported using the Course Performance Descriptors. Read more about School Certificate Grading.

Activity: Experiences of the Depression (View Activity…)

Students work in pairs to create a dialogue between two characters who had different experiences of the Great Depression.


Activity: Stolen Generations - Structured Argument (View Activity…)

Students write a 300-500 word letter to the editor in reply to the editor of a newspaper, based on sources.


Activity: A Migrant's Story - Structured Report (View Activity…)

Students write a structured report based on their research of the experiences of migrants in Australia in the postwar period.


Activity: Changing Rights and Freedoms (View Activity…)

Students assess the significance of one of the following events or issues to the changing rights and freedoms of Aboriginal people.


Activity: People Power (View Activity…)

Students examine the role of Charles Perkins in the Freedom Rides or Germaine Greer in Women’s Liberation or Sir John Kerr in the Whitlam dismissal.


Grade B

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.
