Description of activity
Students compose an empathic reflection based on the life of Captain Cook. They introduce themselves as Cook and reflect on events in his life including his discovery of the east coast of Australia.
Prior learning
Students have been participating in a unit of work on the British colonisation of Australia. They have learnt about various aspects of contact and exploration. Students have investigated key historical events and sites, and explored the impact of British colonisation on Indigenous Australians. In class, they have read the book, ‘I Wish I’d Sailed with Captain Cook’, and they have discussed Cook’s discovery of the east coast of Australia. In Creative Arts, they have participated in role-plays about historical figures and events.
