Other Work Samples for:
Terry has demonstrated sound knowledge and understanding of rectangular prisms and volume. Rectangular prisms of correct measurements have been drawn but some of the diagrams lack accuracy and cubic units have not been used. A variety of shapes has been used to show an understanding of the factors of 24, but some of the number sentences do not relate to the diagrams. Mathematical ideas have been communicated in diagrammatic form, but there is no written explanation of the results. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard at the end of Stage 3.
Grade C
The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and undertake investigations, selecting appropriate technological applications and problem-solving strategies. They use mathematical terminology and some conventions and they give valid reasons when comparing and selecting from possible solutions, making connections with existing knowledge and understanding. - Measurement and Data
Students select and use the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate length, area, volume, capacity and mass. They use 24-hour time in real-life situations and construct timelines. Students draw and interpret a variety of graphs using a scale. - Space and Geometry
Students construct and classify 3D objects and 2D shapes and compare and describe their properties. They measure, construct and classify angles and make simple calculations using scale.
