Bobby has demonstrated an adequate level of competence in calculating and recording perimeter measurements. A variety of four-sided shapes with perimeters of 20 cm have been drawn and labelled. Shapes other than squares and rectangles have been attempted but the measurements are not accurate. Bobby has recognised the possibility of constructing additional shapes but has not provided reasoning for this. A simple description has been provided but there is little mathematical reasoning or terminology. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard midway through Stage 3.

Students select and use the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate length, area, volume, capacity and mass. They use 24-hour time in real-life situations and construct timelines. Students draw and interpret a variety of graphs using a scale.
