Other Work Samples for:
Jamie has demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of rectangular prisms and volume. Three-dimensional shapes with the same volume but different dimensions have been accurately sketched and labelled, showing the relationship between length, breadth and height. A variety of combinations has been included, demonstrating a high level of competence in using the factors of 24. Ideas have been communicated using mathematical language but there is no written explanation of what the diagrams communicate. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard at the end of Stage 3.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and undertake investigations, selecting appropriate technological applications and problem-solving strategies. They use mathematical terminology and some conventions and they give valid reasons when comparing and selecting from possible solutions, making connections with existing knowledge and understanding. - Measurement and Data
Students select and use the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate length, area, volume, capacity and mass. They use 24-hour time in real-life situations and construct timelines. Students draw and interpret a variety of graphs using a scale. - Space and Geometry
Students construct and classify 3D objects and 2D shapes and compare and describe their properties. They measure, construct and classify angles and make simple calculations using scale.
