Other Work Samples for:
Mackenzie has demonstrated a very high level of competence in calculating and recording perimeter measurements. A wide variety of four-sided shapes have been accurately drawn and labelled. Interesting combinations of numbers, including fractions, have been used. Mackenzie has demonstrated a thorough understanding of the properties or rectangles and squares, and has created a formula to calculate the perimeter using this knowledge. There is evidence of mathematical working in the explanation but it could be strengthened by the use of technical language. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard midway through Stage 3.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and undertake investigations, selecting appropriate technological applications and problem-solving strategies. They use mathematical terminology and some conventions and they give valid reasons when comparing and selecting from possible solutions, making connections with existing knowledge and understanding. - Measurement and Data
Students select and use the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate length, area, volume, capacity and mass. They use 24-hour time in real-life situations and construct timelines. Students draw and interpret a variety of graphs using a scale.
