Riley has demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding and shows a high level of competence when recording and converting between analog, digital and 24 hour time. Riley has attempted to use a scale when creating a timeline but has recorded information inaccurately. There is also a lack of mathematical terminology when describing the times of day. More than eight activities have been recorded. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard at the end of Stage 3.

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

  • Working Mathematically
    Students ask questions and undertake investigations, selecting appropriate technological applications and problem-solving strategies. They use mathematical terminology and some conventions and they give valid reasons when comparing and selecting from possible solutions, making connections with existing knowledge and understanding.
  • Measurement and Data
    Students select and use the appropriate unit to estimate, measure and calculate length, area, volume, capacity and mass. They use 24-hour time in real-life situations and construct timelines. Students draw and interpret a variety of graphs using a scale.
