Other Work Samples for:
Stacey has demonstrated an adequate level of competence in using coordinates to represent and describe the position of objects on a map. A simple classroom map has been drawn and labelled using coordinates but a key has not been provided. The locations of five items in the classroom have been correctly identified using coordinates but the description of how to move between points on the map is very simple, and minimal positional language has been used. To improve, Stacey could elaborate on the route between objects, and include a key or label objects on the map to make the directions easier to follow. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard midway through Stage 2.
Grade C
The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning. - Space and Geometry
Students name, describe and sketch particular 3D objects and 2D shapes. They compare angles using informal means and describe a 'right angle'. Students use coordinates to describe position and compass points to give and follow directions.
