Other Work Samples for:
Shannon has demonstrated a thorough understanding of patterns and algebra, and a high level of competence in creating and continuing number patterns. Accurate generalisations about number relationships have been made, and mathematical terminology has been used. There is some evidence of risk-taking in the number patterns created but more complex number patterns for 5, 12 and 30 would demonstrate greater competence in the processes and skills. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard at the end of Stage 1.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use objects, diagrams and technology to explore mathematical problems. They link mathematical ideas and use everyday language, some mathematical language and diagrams to explain how answers were obtained. - Patterns and Algebra
Students describe, create and continue a variety of number patterns and relate addition and subtraction facts to at least 20.
