Tracy has demonstrated a sound understanding of the content and features of a literary recount. The text has been adequately structured and the events are in chronological order. There is some use of emotive and figurative language but a personal comment has not been included. Connectives have been used to join ideas but there is little variation in the sentence beginnings. An adequate range of spelling strategies has been used but there are some phonemic errors. Bold text and exclamation marks have been appropriately used but there is inconsistent use of capital letters. The handwriting is consistent in size and slope. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade C standard midway through Stage 1.

They write using basic grammatical features and conventions of punctuation, showing awareness of different purposes, audiences and subject matter. Students spell using knowledge of sight words, letter-sound correspondence and other strategies. They write using letters of consistent size and slope in NSW Foundation Style and use computer technology to produce texts, recognising simple conventions, language and functions.
