Work Samples - Grade C

The work samples for this grade, together, assist teachers to gain a common understanding of the standard of work typically produced by students whose performance, on balance, matches the description for Grade C.

At the end of Stage 5 for the School Certificate, student achievement is reported using the Course Performance Descriptors. Read more about School Certificate Grading.

Students design a spreadsheet of the earthquakes in the Hunter region.

Students design a valid test for the effect of soil temperature on plant growth.

Students select and research a topic. They develop a hypothesis and plan a controlled investigation to test it.

Students present a report for the hands-on individual student research project that they have planned and conducted in class during the term.

Students apply their understanding of chemical reactions involving precipitation in a first-hand investigation and solve problems to identify unknown metal compounds in solution.


Activity: Performing a First - Hand Investigation (View Activity…)

Students perform an investigation to test the strength of sticky tape. They record their observations and measurements, and present their findings in a scientific report.


Grade C

The student has a sound knowledge and understanding of the main areas of content and has achieved an adequate level of competence in the processes and skills.
