Marking Guidelines
Range A student:
High
  • describes the purpose of the investigation and states a testable question or hypothesis relevant to the identified purpose
  • describes a logical procedure to test the stated question or hypothesis and obtain reliable data identifying all equipment and risk prevention strategies
  • presents data clearly with correct units and includes relevant tables, diagrams and/or graphs showing  trends/relationships
  • provides a detailed analysis  of results, with clear use of cause and effect relationships to explain results and future improvements to the procedure
  • provides a valid conclusion relating to the question or hypothesis and is supported/discounted based on the results
Satisfactory
  • identifies the purpose of the investigation and a related question or hypothesis
  • describes a procedure to test the question, identifying variables that are held constant, a range of appropriate equipment and assessment of risk
  • presents data clearly with correct units in an appropriate format including some tables, graphs and/or diagrams
  • provides a simple analysis  of the results, including cause and effect relationships and identifies some ways that the procedure and results could have been improved
  • provides a conclusion that relates to the results but is not referenced to the question or hypothesis
Progressing
  • states a purpose for the investigation and a question or hypothesis
  • outlines a procedure that includes some variables, limited equipment and a limited risk assessment
  • presents data but in the methods used not all headings/diagrams/units are appropriate or complete
  • provides an outline of results, cause and effect relationships and/or improvements to the procedure.
  • provides a conclusion that is not supported with reference to the results and/or question or hypothesis
