Shannon has demonstrated basic knowledge and understanding of the trigonometric ratios. The examples used have only considered cases where the unknown is in the numerator and no attempt to find an unknown angle has been made. The calculations are accurate and the solutions are clearly set out, following the conventions of systematic solution of equations. Shannon has drawn diagrams following the prompt ‘in right-angled triangles’, but a limited range of trigonometric techniques has been shown and there is no attempt to illustrate the use of trigonometry in practical situations. Even though Shannon may be capable of more, there is no further evidence of this in the work sample. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade D4 standard at the end of Stage 5.
Grade D
The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.Areas for Assessment
- Working mathematically
Knowledge, skills and understanding developed through inquiry, application of problem-solving strategies, communication, reasoning and reflection - Measurement
Knowledge, skills and understanding in identifying and quantifying attributes of shapes and objects and applying measurement strategies
