Alex has demonstrated a limited level of competence in solving consumer arithmetic problems. A solution has been found based on cost per kilometre and appropriate calculator techniques have been used to evaluate the rate but only two explanations have been given. The explanations are appropriate but the idea of rate has not been accurately communicated in Question 2. The calculations use only the most expensive rate, without further justification.
