Other Work Samples for:
Huong has demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of volume and surface area. The setting out is clear, but units have been used during calculations. The diagrams are clear, showing thorough understanding of 3D shapes. The calculations are accurate, but correct conversions have not been consistently used. Pythagoras’ theorem has been used to find the height of the face and four congruent faces have been implied. Surface area has been calculated and the base has not been included in this real-life application. The rounding of the slant height is sensible because the areas of the base and the height of the pyramid were given correct to 3 significant figures. Huong has effectively communicated the mathematical process used with the use of diagrams and well-sequenced working. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B8 standard at the end of Stage 5.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Areas for Assessment
- Working mathematically
Knowledge, skills and understanding developed through inquiry, application of problem-solving strategies, communication, reasoning and reflection - Measurement
Knowledge, skills and understanding in identifying and quantifying attributes of shapes and objects and applying measurement strategies
