Sam has demonstrated numerical skills in using surds but has not generalised using algebraic expressions. Disproof by counter example has been provided but the response demonstrates the incorrect assumption that proof by example is sufficient. The concept that square roots of negative numbers are not possible has been shown, and appropriate notation has been used throughout, but there is little justification of conclusions.
