Jessie has demonstrated a thorough understanding of simultaneous equations. The graphical method has been effectively demonstrated without the use of a graph. Jessie has chosen the more difficult method to begin with and has not coped successfully with the negative in 2x – y = 8. An attempt to use mathematical terminology has been made but it lacks accuracy. The elimination method has been correctly applied and the solution has been checked by substituting into other equations, but Jessie has not acknowledged that the answer obtained in Question 1 is not the same as that in Question 3. There is an understanding of what has to be done but the solution is incorrect. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B7 standard at the end of Stage 5.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Areas for Assessment
