Range

A student in this range:

8–10

(High)

  • creates an effective text, using a range of linguistic patterns and structures to convey information and express own ideas for the purpose and context
  • applies grammatical rules and conventions to the development of clear and cohesive text
  • writes, with accuracy, hiragana, katakana and kanji relevant to the context
  • applies the conventions of letter writing.
4–7

(Satisfactory)

  • creates a text, using a range of linguistic patterns and structures to convey information and express own ideas for the purpose and context
  • applies grammatical rules and conventions to the development of a cohesive text
  • writes hiragana, and some katakana and kanji relevant to the context
  • applies some conventions of letter writing.
1–3

(Progressing)

  • creates a text, using a limited range of linguistic patterns and structures to convey information and express own ideas
  • applies grammatical rules and conventions to the development of text, relying on teacher support and modelled linguistic structures
  • writes some hiragana, and a limited number of katakana and kanji relevant to the context
  • uses the format for letter writing.
