Description of activity

Students are presented with a scenario for which they design and produce a solution. They consider the outputs of the system, enter data and manipulate through searches and sorts to produce a database for the Year 10 formal.

Context

Students have learnt about database development and methods for collecting, organising and storing data. They have undertaken a range of learning experiences to input and store data for a given problem. Students have an understanding of the legal and ethical issues that pertain to databases and database design.

Outcomes

A student:
5.1.2 selects, maintains and appropriately uses hardware for a range of tasks
5.2.1 describes and applies problem-solving processes when creating solutions
5.2.2 designs, produces and evaluates appropriate solutions to a range of challenging problems
5.5.2 communicates ideas, processes and solutions to a targeted audience

Criteria for assessing learning

Students will be assessed on their ability to:

  • design a database appropriate for the Year 10 formal
  • input and store data for the given scenario
  • conduct query searches and sorts on the data
  • create reports for queries
