Recount - Tai : Commentary
Tai has demonstrated a sound understanding of the structure and features of a recount. Details about when, where, how, who and what have been included but a personal opinion has not been provided. Past tense has been used but sentence structure is inconsistent. There is good control of letter formation and directionality. Full stops have been appropriately used but capital letters have not been used to begin sentences. There is sound knowledge of high frequency sight words, and a range of spelling strategies has been used. To progress further, Tai could vary sentence beginnings, include more descriptive words and work on the use of capital letters. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at the expected standard at the end of Kindergarten.
Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Writing
Students write with an increasing awareness of the nature, purpose and conventions of written language. They produce
simple texts that demonstrate an awareness of the basic grammar and punctuation needed. Students know and use letters
and sounds of the alphabet to attempt to spell known words and use most lower and upper case letters appropriately to
construct sentences. Students explore the use of computer technology to construct texts.
