Recount - Jody : Commentary
Jody has demonstrated a sound understanding of the structure and features of a recount. Details about when, where, who and what have been included but a personal opinion has not been provided. Past tense has been used, and there is good control of most letters but the directionality of the writing is inconsistent. Attempts at using full stops and capital letters have been made. An illustration has been provided to support the text, and a range of spelling strategies has been used. To progress further, Jody could use conjunctions and adjectives to create compound and complex sentences. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at the expected standard midway through Kindergarten.
Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Writing
Students write with an increasing awareness of the nature, purpose and conventions of written language. They produce
simple texts that demonstrate an awareness of the basic grammar and punctuation needed. Students know and use letters
and sounds of the alphabet to attempt to spell known words and use most lower and upper case letters appropriately to
construct sentences. Students explore the use of computer technology to construct texts.
