Other Work Samples for:
Lesley has demonstrated a basic understanding of an information report. One simple sentence describing the animal’s appearance has been written but the other questions on the scaffold have not been addressed. Some descriptive language has been used and the sentence structure is correct but there is limited use of sight words. Some letters have been correctly produced and Lesley can identify the beginning and end of sounds. A capital letter has been used to begin the sentence and there is some experimentation with the use of full stops. To develop further, Lesley should increase the number of sight words and work on the consistency of spaces between words. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at the expected standard midway through Kindergarten.
Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Writing
Students write with an increasing awareness of the nature, purpose and conventions of written language. They produce simple texts that demonstrate an awareness of the basic grammar and punctuation needed. Students know and use letters and sounds of the alphabet to attempt to spell known words and use most lower and upper case letters appropriately to construct sentences. Students explore the use of computer technology to construct texts.
