Lindsay has demonstrated an excellent awareness of the features of a recount. Ideas have been appropriately sequenced and past tense has been consistently used. Compound sentences have been used and a personal comment has been made. There is evidence of self-correction and the implementation of a variety of spelling strategies. Simple punctuation has been appropriately and consistently used. Upper-case and lower-case letters have been correctly formed. To further develop skills in writing recounts, Lindsay could include more descriptive language. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing above the expected standard at the end of Kindergarten.

Students write with an increasing awareness of the nature, purpose and conventions of written language. They produce simple texts that demonstrate an awareness of the basic grammar and punctuation needed. Students know and use letters and sounds of the alphabet to attempt to spell known words and use most lower and upper case letters appropriately to construct sentences. Students explore the use of computer technology to construct texts.
