Recount - Alex : Commentary
Alex has demonstrated a good understanding of the structure and features of a recount. Details about when, where, who and what have been provided in sequential order. Past tense has been used, and the language is varied. There is good control of directionality and spacing, and a range of spelling strategies has been used. To progress further, Alex could work on the use of punctuation, include more descriptive detail, vary sentence beginnings and use more complex sentences. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing above the expected standard midway through Kindergarten.
Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Writing
Students write with an increasing awareness of the nature, purpose and conventions of written language. They produce
simple texts that demonstrate an awareness of the basic grammar and punctuation needed. Students know and use letters
and sounds of the alphabet to attempt to spell known words and use most lower and upper case letters appropriately to
construct sentences. Students explore the use of computer technology to construct texts.
