Kerry has demonstrated an excellent awareness of the features of an information report. Descriptive language has been used and letters have been correctly produced. Punctuation has been used consistently and appropriately, and there is evidence of the use of a variety of spelling strategies. To progress further, Kerry should group together similar information about features of the animal. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing above the expected standard at the end of Kindergarten.

Students write with an increasing awareness of the nature, purpose and conventions of written language. They produce simple texts that demonstrate an awareness of the basic grammar and punctuation needed. Students know and use letters and sounds of the alphabet to attempt to spell known words and use most lower and upper case letters appropriately to construct sentences. Students explore the use of computer technology to construct texts.
