Description of activity
Students design, make and evaluate a multimedia presentation which can be either web-based, or based on presentation software. The presentation must include a minimum of:
- four pages
- three different types of graphics
- three types of hyperlinks from different types of sources.
1. REPORT – SYSTEM DEVELOPMENT
- Define the problem – clearly identify what your Multimedia/Graphics Presentation aims to do (eg resource for a sporting or interest group, personal/family etc).
- Success criteria – compose a brief statement that describes the essential features the presentation must incorporate to solve the problem adequately.
- Plan the solution – create a STORYBOARD that shows the main features of each page including heading and navigational links.
- Evaluate tutorial – evaluate: (i) How easy to use – software ergonomics / screen design and navigation (ii) Content (iii) Proposed improvements.
2. MULTIMEDIA/GRAPHICS PRESENTATION
Students will need to remember to keep the solution simple. The student's system development and application software skills and knowledge are being assessed. Good presentations will use the criteria listed in the overview to demonstrate the related skills.- Minimum 4 pages, maximum 9 pages.
- Careful consideration should be given to screen design/ergonomics.
- Minimum of three types of graphic sources (eg scanned image, digital photo, copied image).
- Image sources must be acknowledged.
- Include a minimum of three hyperlinks. Try to vary the style of HTML, eg linked text, linked button or linked graphic. Try linking to another page of your presentation, to another file and to a website.
- Hand in both electronic and paper versions. (Multiple-page layout on each A4 sheet is preferred, to save paper.)
Context
Students have completed a unit of work on authoring and multimedia at the end of Year 9.
Areas for Assessment
Outcomes
5.2.1 describes and applies problem-solving processes when creating solutions
5.2.2 designs, produces and evaluates appropriate solutions to a range of challenging problems
5.2.3 critically analyses decision-making processes in a range of information and software solutions.
Criteria for assessment
(These criteria would normally be communicated to students with the activity.)
Students will be assessed on their ability to:
- produce a report that defines the problem, describes the success criteria, provides an evaluation of the material and includes a storyboard that shows the main features of each page
- develop a multimedia/graphics presentation that is technically accomplished
- use appropriate documentation, ideas and solutions.
