Commentary
This response demonstrated developing knowledge and understanding of the concept of citizenship, community and diversity using the landscape and the contrast between city and country to shape perspective. While there is evidence of research there is further opportunity to develop ideas. The response demonstrates developing skills in structuring and communicating information. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing within the mark range of 70–79.
Speech: good and bad of living in the country
Good morning/afternoon students and teachers I am here today to talk to you about the good and the bad of living in the country in Australia. Australia is a continent with vast land and stunning sights. But only the people living in the country experiences that on a regular basis.
Yes the people living in the city have more opportunities and are closer to help but with living in the city they are in a hurry and are always crowded, packed together like sheep. At least with living in the country you have your own space and also freedom to be yourself. 70% of Australians live in the ten biggest cities of Australia and the other 30% live in smaller towns and remote areas. Imagine 70% of the population; imagine 15.4million people living in 10 cities compared to seven million people living in an area multiple times that size. I remember seeing an ad for Optus the other day, they claimed to be able to reach 95% of the population with their network coverage, but Those ninety-five percent most likely live somewhere near a city of large town.
With most of Australia’s economy going towards the city and large developments the country is left with little resources and therefore have the roads riddled with potholes and poorly maintained roads. But there are more good sides with living in the country besides the landscape and privacy such as
- Peaceful surroundings-whether you have one acre or ten with living in the country you have the peace and quiet everyone is after. Also when you walk outside you are almost always surrounded by birds singing or crickets chirping compared to in the city the “whoosh” of cars going past.
- Open spaces-Life in the country means your home isn’t packed on top of your neighbors and means you also have room to do what you want without being anyone’s space.
- Clean air-Families that live in the country have the benefit over crowed cities and industrial areas of having clear air. Sitting outside at night and being able to view the stars and moon is clear evidence of the air in the country.
As with that I end this with a question. Where would you rather live?
