Description of activity
In groups, students devise, rehearse and make a video of 6 to 8 minutes in the style of the silent movies of the 1920s and incorporating features of melodrama.
Context
During the making, performing and appreciating activities in this unit, students have learnt about the history and conventions of melodrama. They have viewed examples of short films and silent films and learnt about film-making techniques and developing a storyboard for a short film. Students have completed workshops on using a video camera and editing, and they have studied the different roles and responsibilities within a film crew.

- devise a short video, using the elements of drama such as structure, role and character, tension, time and situation appropriate to the conventions of melodrama and silent films
- use acting and performance techniques appropriate to the conventions of melodrama and silent films
- use technology to create dramatic meaning.
