Other Work Samples for:
Kendall has demonstrated a limited level of competence in creating, continuing and recording patterns for two of the four operations. Most of the patterns involving simple addition are accurate but the fraction pattern is only based on the denominators. Attempts have been made to use multiplication but the explanations show a lack of understanding of this operation. To improve, Kendall could include more complex and varied number patterns involving subtraction, multiplication and division, and demonstrate stronger mathematical understanding in the explanation of patterns. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade D standard midway through Stage 2.
Grade D
The student has a basic knowledge and understanding of the content and has achieved a limited level of competence in the processes and skills.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning. - Patterns and Algebra
Students generate, describe and record number patterns and relate multiplication and division facts to at least 10 x 10.
