Lesley has demonstrated thorough knowledge and understanding of the relationship between digital and analog time. The diagrams and explanation demonstrate a high level of competence in reading time on the hour, half hour and quarter hour. Both written and numerical language has been used in examples to explain how the answer was obtained and multi-step operations have been used in the explanations but some of the language is not specific enough to clearly convey the ideas to another person. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard at the end of Stage 2.

The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.

  • Working Mathematically
    Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning.
  • Measurement and Data
    Students estimate, measure, compare and record length, area, volume, capacity and mass using some formal units. They read and record time in hours and minutes in digital and analogue notation and make comparisons between time units. Students gather and organise data to create and interpret tables and graphs.
