Other Work Samples for:
Ainsley has demonstrated a high level of competence in using coordinates to represent position and describe a route. A clearly labelled map of the bike track has been drawn and an eight-point compass rose has been included but the coordinates have been placed on the grid lines rather than in the spaces. There are some inaccuracies in the labelling of objects on the map using coordinates but precise positional language has been used to describe the route. To improve, Ainsley could develop a more complex bike track and make more reference to objects on the map in the description of the route. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade B standard midway through Stage 2.
Grade B
The student has a thorough knowledge and understanding of the content and a high level of competence in the processes and skills. In addition, the student is able to apply this knowledge and these skills to most situations.Foundation Statement strands
The following strands are covered in this activity:
- Working Mathematically
Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning. - Space and Geometry
Students name, describe and sketch particular 3D objects and 2D shapes. They compare angles using informal means and describe a 'right angle'. Students use coordinates to describe position and compass points to give and follow directions.
