Jordan has demonstrated extensive knowledge and understanding of digital and analog time. Multi-step operations that are consistently accurate have been used. The explanation demonstrates extensive understanding of the movement of the hands on the analog clock and of how to convert digital time to analog time. Detailed diagrams and appropriate terminology have been used to support the explanation. This work sample demonstrates characteristics of work typically produced by a student performing at grade A standard at the end of Stage 2.

Grade A

The student has an extensive knowledge and understanding of the content and can readily apply this knowledge. In addition, the student has achieved a very high level of competence in the processes and skills and can apply these skills to new situations.

Foundation Statement strands

The following strands are covered in this activity:

  • Working Mathematically
    Students ask questions and use appropriate mental or written strategies, and technology, to solve problems. They use appropriate terminology to describe and link mathematical ideas, check statements for accuracy and explain reasoning.
  • Measurement and Data
    Students estimate, measure, compare and record length, area, volume, capacity and mass using some formal units. They read and record time in hours and minutes in digital and analogue notation and make comparisons between time units. Students gather and organise data to create and interpret tables and graphs.
